Bilbil
Bilbil = Nightengale(click on the pic to hear a Bilbil)
Tatars love to sing about nature and many songs refer to birds and birdsongs. Bilbil birds are referred to again and again in Tatar songs and poems. Also the Tatar singing group in Burlingame, California is called "Bilbillar"- "the Nightengales"

Kazan 1988
Pictures from Kazan in 1988
A group of Tatars from Helsinki was organizing a trip to visit Kazan. They sent along an invitation to Tatars in California to join them.
I flew to Helsinki, spent some time there and in Northern Finland, then on the Tolstoy Express train to Moscow. Flight from Moscow to Kazan.
This was during the time of Gorbachev. It was still very much a Communist State.
