State Historical Museum, Moscow - Turkic Peoples of the Steppe

A number of the objects from the Golden Horde, notably the gold from the Simferopol hoard, are depicted and described in detail in Altyn Urda khezinelere/Sokrovishcha Zolotoi Ordy/The Treasures of the Golden Horde (St. Petersburg: Slavia, 2000).

The lovely calligraphic inscription on the surface of this Paiza of Golden Horde Khan Ozbeg, 1st half of 14th c.
reads: “By the order of Eternal Heaven, the decree of Khan Ozbeg [is that] a person who does not submit to the Mongols is guilty and shall die.”
